The course that I have designed is aimed to raise awareness on an occupational burnout which is called "Teacher Burnout", and to avoid it, to seek ways to prevent from burning out and to help those whoa are suffering from address the issue. It is designed for educators those who are experiencing burnout to tackle the problem and those who are at risk of being exposed to burnout at any point in their teaching practices.
It is true that any profession can be suspectible to burnout. However, there are some areas, owing to their intrinsic nature might be at greater risk of burnout. Careers that have the highest rates of burnout require long working hours, greater emotional involvement and those which require constant adaptability under pressure (Baptiste, 2023). These jobs are:
  • healthcare professionals
  • educators
  • consultants
  • social workers
  • accountants
  • corporate executives
  • lawyers
  • journalists
  • professionals of tech industry
  • chefs and restaurant staff
As we can see educators are at the top of the chart, due to a combination of emotional, physical, and professional stressors. Since their job involve long hours, heavy workload, emotional labor, low pay and most importantly challenging student behavior, large class sizes higher levels of external pressure from parents (King, 2024)  it is very demanding. It is important to protect their well being at all costs.

The short online course that I have developed has 5 lessons each lasting about 80 minutes. I used Google classroom because of its simplicity, easy to understand both for the student and the teacher. Creating lessons, tasks and assigning them is not very complex. Although I had used much of the space that my Google account has given me and had some issues uploading some files which are big in size, it did not necessarily cause problems because I provided the link for most of the materials that were great in size.
The first lesson includes an introduction of what teacher burnout is by defining the term. In this lesson the learners will be introduced to the issue of burnout.  Also, they were provided with a website to test themselves for burnout, and another task for them was to fill in journal. I used Padlet for this because it is user friendly, easy to access and students will be able to read each others responses on the collaborative board. Another activity was a quick quiz made on Wordwall. I used wordwall because it is really fun and students can adjust the type of quiz to their liking (quiz, Open the box, Spin the wheel, Anagram). The second was about the causes of burnout, where I provided them with reading materials and 2 case studies of teachers experiencing burnout. They were also asked to write a reflection on the reading material and do a quiz. For the quiz I used Edpuzzle ( a tool that helps you create questions using a YouTube video). Edpuzzle is very engaging because it requires the learners to attentively watch the video and answer the questions. Lesson 3 was on the signs of burnout also requires students to write a reflection on Padlet where they can see each other's writing and comment on it, this encourages the principle of connectivism. Lesson 4 (strategies to manage burnout and building resilience and self-care) includes a video on strategies to manage and prevent burnout and another activity asks students to reflect on the strategies they have learned and also their own suggestions to tackle the issue using a tool called Nearpod. I created a crossword using Puzzel.org which was a very  fun and engaging tool to create different kinds of puzzles. The final lesson, Lesson 5 was about creating a sustainable work-life balance and supportive teaching community and it provides 2 very useful books on the matter and help them create a healthy working environment. They can also do the work-life balance quiz to see if they have a good balance or not. I created the final activity on all the knowledge they gained throughout the course on burnout. I used Wordwall to create this activity.
